Unbought and Unbossed

Thirty years ago, I was elected Lieutenant Governor — the first woman to hold that post in the history of Colorado.  I’ve met a lot of candidates since then, but I’ve never been more enthusiastic about any race than I am about this one.

Anyone who has watched Andrew Romanoff recognizes what an extraordinary Senator he will be.  He has spent most of his life fighting tooth and nail for ordinary people: the kids he taught in Central America, the Klan victims he defended at the Southern Poverty Law Center, the constituents he represented so well in the Colorado House of Representatives.

Click here to keep Andrew fighting for us.

Like Shirley Chisholm, Andrew is unbought and unbossed.  As Speaker of the House, he stood up to powerful special-interest groups, even when the odds were against him.  He won fights against the insurance industry and made health care available to thousands of Coloradans. He forged consensus in a legislature that had been deeply divided for decades.

That’s exactly the kind of leadership we need in the U.S. Senate today.

Andrew is the only candidate in this race willing to turn down contributions from corporate political action committees — the cash that so often corrupts Congress and kills any hope of progress on Capitol Hill.  Now the same interest groups that are trying to block health-care reform, stiff struggling homeowners, and gut our environmental laws are preparing to pour millions of dollars into Colorado to defeat Andrew.  We Coloradans do not want or welcome that kind of interference from Washington.

That’s where you come in.

I’m asking you to invest in Andrew’s campaign today.  Your contribution will help us build the team and reach the voters we need to win.

More than 3,500 Coloradans have already joined our cause.  In fact, our donor base has increased by more than 25 percent in the last two weeks alone.  I can tell you from my own political experience: it takes a lot of little money to overcome big money in politics.  We learned that in the last election.  Let us not forget that lesson so soon.

Stand with us now.

Sincerely,

Nancy Dick
Former Lieutenant Governor
La Veta, Colorado
