Tireless in Colorado

-by Andrew Romanoff

Imagine a Senate that worked.

Democrats and Republicans would team up to balance the budget, energize our economy, educate our workforce, curb the cost of health care, protect our environment, and repair our infrastructure.  Lawmakers would meet in the open, limit their speeches, and take up-or-down votes.

How much is that picture worth?

Pie-in-the-sky?  Not in Colorado.  That’s the legislature I led.  The results we achieved set us a world apart from Washington.

That's why State Treasurer Cary Kennedy endorsed my candidacy, calling me “a tireless advocate for the people of Colorado and an extraordinarily effective legislator.”  As the Denver Post recognized, I "worked around the clock to create the kind of bipartisan policy that will leave a lasting mark on our state."

What’s missing in the U.S. Senate today is not only bipartisanship.  It’s a sense of urgency.  The lives and livelihoods of millions of families hang on the decisions Congress makes or, too often, avoids.  Too many politicians, shielded from the recession and seduced by special interests, act as if they had all the time in the world.  They don’t.  We don’t.

Act now to make Washington take notice.

A Senate that worked would halt the financial abuses on Wall Street, end tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas, and ease access to credit and capital for small businesses.  A Senate that worked would revolutionize America’s energy policy and reduce our reliance on fossil fuel.  A Senate that worked would conduct the people’s business not in the shadows of Congressional cloakrooms but in the light of day.

That day will never come until men and women of goodwill demand it.  If you like the way Washington works, stop reading.  But if you want that town to hear you, it’s time to speak up.  Congress will produce real reform only when its members believe they will pay a political price for doing nothing.

The polls show that I have the best chance to hold this seat in November.  The evidence shows that our momentum is growing.  More Coloradans stood with us on caucus night, more Coloradans contibuted to our campaign in the last quarter, and more Coloradans are volunteering their time than on behalf of any other candidate for any office in the state.

I will win this race -- with your help -- and I will owe the special interests nothing.  This is what a grassroots victory looks like.  Join us.

Sincerely,

P.S.:  Our fundraising quarter ends at midnight tomorrow.  A group of donors has pledged to match your donation today.  Please give as generously as you can.
