Worth Fighting For
-by Andrew Romanoff
I hope you're having a good week. I'd like to share some news from the campaign trail and an invitation to get involved.
In the last ten days, we've proposed an aggressive slate of financial reforms. We picked up endorsements from two of Colorado's largest labor organizations, two-thirds of the Democrats in the State House, and 40 other legislators, past and present. And we opened up a seven-point lead on our primary opponent in a head-to-head matchup against the Republican frontrunner.
The first week of February took my team and me to 12 counties in southern Colorado and the Western Slope. We'll be back on the road this weekend. (Click here to find an event near you.)
I've learned a lot from this experience: from a proud veteran in Glenwood Springs, fighting for the benefits he earned; from a worried mother in Greeley, wondering what will happen when her son-in-law loses his job and her daughter loses her health insurance; from a small employer in Durango, whose business is neither "too big to fail" nor big enough to get a loan. Families all across Colorado are struggling to keep their paychecks, their homes and their savings from disappearing. These are the families I'm fighting for.
Their concerns seem a world away in Washington. That "dysfunctional" city is "desperately in need of reform." Those aren't my words; they belong to Evan Bayh, who announced his retirement yesterday. "Congress is not operating as it should," Senator Bayh said. "Even at a time of enormous challenge, the people's business is not being done."
The people of Colorado -- people I've gotten to know and serve over the last 16 years -- deserve better. They deserve a government that works.
I can't fix Washington's broken political system on my own, but we can. Thousands of Coloradans are joining our cause. Here's how you can get involved:
- Make a contribution. It takes a lot of little money to get big money out of politics.
- Volunteer. Our headquarters is located at 2223 S. Monaco Pkwy. in Denver, but you can also work from home. We host phone banks every weeknight and every weekend. We also need help greeting visitors, entering data and conducting research.
- Host a house party. Invite your friends and neighbors to learn more about our campaign.
