AURORA, CO— US Senate Candidate Andrew Romanoff today released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of President Trump’s implementation of his zero tolerance policy at the border, which separated children from their families:
“On President Trump’s orders, our nation separated thousands of children—many fleeing violence—from their families at the border. One year later, our government isn’t able to tell us if all the children have been reunited with their families.
“President Trump has stonewalled critical oversight of this cruel policy, even as evidence has shown his administration had no plan to reunite families when they ripped them apart. Just as appalling, the president now says that ending the policy was a mistake.
“We can’t stop fighting until every family is reunited. I’m calling on Senator Gardner to support legislation to keep families together, end the use of for-profit detention centers that are placing children in danger, and protect the legal rights of children seeking refuge in our country. Senator Gardner and the US Senate must hold this administration accountable for the inhumane policies it has implemented on our borders.”
