Defending Seniors—and the Truth

Defending Seniors—and the Truth

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | JULY 28, 2010 | ROMANOFF FOR COLORADO

For the second time in a week, my opponent has attempted to mislead the citizens of Colorado (1). Here are the facts:

  • I oppose the privatization of Social Security. I said so in the vote I cast in the state legislature (2), and I renew that pledge now. The resolution my opponent cites has nothing to do with privatizing Social Security; in fact, it specifically urges Congress NOT to cut Social Security benefits (3).
  • My leadership on issues of concern to seniors earned me 100% ratings from AARP, the Colorado Senior Lobby, and the Colorado Gerontological Society (4).

... We see Romanoff as potentially one of the premier senators and statesmen of this generation.

Romanoff brings passion for teaching to U.S. Senate primary race

7/14/2010 - The Denver Post - Michael Booth - Andrew Romanoff's commitment to education dates to the weeks after he left Yale University as an undergraduate, when he traveled to Costa Rica hoping to teach English to the needy.

Costa Ricans weren't needy enough by his estimate, so he waited in a visa line every day at the Nicaraguan Embassy until they would let him in to one of the Western Hemisphere's poorest countries.

Romanoff, the former Democratic state House speaker who is running against U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet in the Democratic primary, says his formative Colorado experience was driving the state from morning to midnight campaigning for a rural school reconstruction fund.
